Satya and Surtr

Like our famous game of Monopoly, what starts out fair and enjoyable ends up ruined by one or two players fixated with greed and bankrupting everyone else, this is what happens to our planet and humanity time and again. It need not if we set boundaries and prevented ownership and inequality getting out of hand. But we don’t. In history we find it has resulted in many purges or revolutions which are bloody affairs and discredit humanity as much as greed.

Parashurama (Sanskrit: परशुराम IAST: Paraśurāma, Malayalam: പരശുരാമന്‍, lit. Rama with an axe) is the sixth avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. He is the son of Renuka and one of the saptarishis, Jamadagni. He lived during the last Treta and Dvapara Yugas and is one of the Chiranjivi (immortals) of Hinduism. Parashurama, a Brahmin, received his famous axe after undertaking terrible penance to please Shiva, who in turn taught him Kalaripayattu (the mother of all martial arts).

Parashurama is most known for ridding the world of kshatriyas twenty-one times over after the mighty king Kartavirya Arjuna, not the famous one of Mahabharata, killed his father. As per the Mahabharata, Parashurama single-handedly successfully conquered the entire world and killed crores of kshatriyas. Parashurama conducted hundreds of Ashvamedhas and gave away the entire earth he conquered as alms to sage Kashyapa. Wikipedia

There is more than meets the eye here but what are the kshatriyas he keeps ridding the world of?

Kshatriya (from kshatra, “rule, authority”) is one of the four varna (social orders) of the Hindu society. The Sanskrit term kshatriya is used in the context of Vedic society wherein members organised themselves into four classes: brahmin, kshatriya, vaishya and shudra. Traditionally, the kshatriya constituted the ruling and military elite. Their role was to protect society by fighting in wartime and governing in peacetime” Wikipedia

They are here called the ‘elite’.

Parashuram was also credited as being the spiritual mentor of Kalki the Hindu future messiah. Kalki appears when the world slips into darkness and perversity.

“When Lord Kalki saw that the entire world has sunk neck-deep in perversities like sex indulgence, anger, greed, attachment, ego, laziness, etc. and the light of the souls had been extinguished, he decided to guide the masses groping in the darkness of ignorance. The darkness was dense. The entire world was badly trapped in the materialistic pursuits and the pleasures of the senses. Lord Kalki felt that he lacked the power required for this awakening of the masses. Then his spiritual mentor Parashuram called him to the Himalayas and made him undertake a penance at a place where he (Parashuram) had himself done it. This penance awakened the enormous power, which was needed for the transformation of the era, within Kalki. “

Something else about Parashuram could now be noted:

“Parashurama and Indrajit (Ravana‘s son) are believed to be the only humans who ever possessed the three ultimate weapons: the Brahmanda astra, Vaishnava astra and Pashupatastra. Parashurama was a disciple of Shiva and learned the scriptures and the arts of warfare from Shiva. He then acquired celestial weapons from Shiva and the other gods on Shiva’s instructions. Shiva personally trained Parashurama for decades in the art of warfare. The Bhargavastra was his personal celestial weapon and vijaya was his personal bow which was gifted by Shiva. Parashurama also fought back the advancing seas to save the lands of Konkan and Kerala.” Wikipedia

If sea rises are as predicted we will need his help. But perhaps sea rises will be very much higher than the 18 or so metres they predict. I hope Robert will not mind me quoting here some extracts from a thought provoking article:

Human Extinction 2026

by Robert Hunziker

Human Extinction by 2026, a controversial/questionable idea, is examined in some detail on the web site: Within the posted article, a bright red box highlights the hypothesis: “Will Humans Be Extinct By 2026?” Of course, simply posing the question is tantamount to endorsing the conclusion in the affirmative.

Also of recent, but not directly related to the extinction article, scientists moved the infamous Doomsday Clock ahead by 30 seconds closer to midnight because of rising global nationalism and failure to confront both nuclear weapons and climate change

The following quote from the Arctic News/blog article brings this bleak issue into focus: “The situation is dire. Little or no action is taken on climate change. Earth faces a potential temperature rise of more than 10°C or 18°F by 2026.”

Without a doubt, worldwide temp increases by 18°F essentially wipes-out global agriculture.

However, it’s worth noting that no universal consensus of opinion by scientists comes close to this prediction, not close at all. The scientific community at large believes temps will gradually rise, slowly, and manageably

Fifty-five (55) million years ago, global temps increased by 5° C within 13 years; CO2 in the atmosphere was 1,000 ppm, and there was no ice on the planet (today ice is melting like crazy, irreversibly in certain areas of Antarctica, which is extremely problematic). That’s remarkable, as it should take hundreds of years, or more, for global temps to increase by 5° C, not a measly 13 years. This fact alone, as discovered by scientists studying timeless ice core and sediment, unfortunately reinforces the “Human Extinction by 2026” thesis, somewhat

Something needs to be done but our governments seem to be reluctant to upset those who make a living from pollution.

However I am coming back to the weapons at the disposal of Parashuram. The first might be equated with for example the sun suddenly swallowing up its system which it will do when it runs out of fuel:

“In the epic Mahabharata, it is said that the weapon manifest with the all five heads of Lord Brahma as its tip. Brahma earlier lost his fifth head when he fought with Lord Shiva. This weapon is said to possess the power to destroy the Universe or Brahmand (the 14 realms) according to Hindu cosmology. As recorded in Hindu puranas, when this weapon is invoked it will cause ” the oceans to boil due to its heat and earth and mountains will float on the air and everything will burn without even leaving ashes”. When this weapon is used for defensive purpose or counter to Brahmastra and Brahmashirsha astra it will swallow the above said astras and neutralize it. When this astra is used for offensive purpose nothing can stop or escape from it.In some texts it is called Brahma-dhanda astra, the weapon created by Saptarishi‘s to counter any weapon ever created, even that of Trimurti‘s. The rishi of this weapon is Para Brahman. It is said to be the most difficult astra to obtain. Capable of destroying entire multiverse in a blink of an eye. Vishvamitra used all kinds of divine weapons against sage Vashistha, but the Brahma-dhanda astra of Vashistha neutralized and swallowed all astra (weapon) of Vishwamitra proving that Brahma-dhanda astra is the most powerful of all astra’s” Wikipedia

We might see this as a galactic ‘weapon’ the sort of regular cataclysm that stars and planets eventually succumb to. Nothing is left in the vicinity. Next:

“The Narayanastra (IAST: nārāyaṇastra, sanskrit: नारायणास्त्र )(or Narainastra) was the personal weapon of Lord Vishnu in his Narayana(or Naraina) form. This astra (“weapon” in Sanskrit) in turn fires a powerful tirade of millions of deadly missiles simultaneously. The intensity of the shower rises with increase in resistance. The only way of defense towards this missile, is to show total submission before the missiles hit. This in turn will cause this weapon to stop and spare the target.

Ashwathama, a Kuru warrior-hero in the epic Mahabharata unleashes this weapon on the Pandava forces. Lord Krishna, who is an Avatar of Vishnu tells the Pandavas and their warriors to drop their weapons and lie down on the ground, so that they all surrender completely to the power of the weapon. It was also said that this weapon can be used only once in a war and if one tries to use it twice, then it would devour the user’s own army.

When it was used, Ekadasha (Eleven) Rudras appeared in the sky to destroy Pandavas. Millions of types of weapons like Chakra, Gadha, ultra sharp arrows appeared in rage to destroy them. Who ever tried to offend were destroyed. Shri Krishna who knew how to cool down the Narayanastra advised Pandavas and their army to immediately drop all types and sorts of weapons from their hands and utterly surrender to the great astra of Lord Vishnu. Everybody does the same and survives.

When targeted, the Pandava hero Bhima refuses to surrender, thinking it an act of cowardice, and attacks the downpour of fiery arrows. The Narayana weapon concentrates its shower on him, and he gets steadily exhausted. However, he was not killed as Krishna and his brothers restrain him at the right time.” Wikipedia

This is more like a shower of meteors, asteroids or comets. It does not destroy everything. The only way to avoid it is to change and observe the ‘dharma’. Stop the inequalities that upset the gods. But the elite are always reluctant to do this. As it happens any such planetary disaster would bankrupt every corporation in the world, little of our ‘civilised’ world would remain. He also has this:

“The Pashupatastra (IAST: Pāśupatāstra, sanskrit: पाशुपतास्त्र), in Hindu History, is an irresistible and most destructive personal weapon of Shiva, Kali and Adi Para Sakthi discharged by the mind, the eyes, words, or a bow. Never to be used against lesser enemies or by lesser warriors, the Pashupatastra is capable of destroying creation and vanquishing all beings. Pashupatastra is the most destructive, powerful, irresistible weapon of all the weapons mentioned in the Hindu mythology.

In the Mahabharata war Arjuna obtained this weapon from Lord Shiva.

A Narrative from Kisari Mohan Ganguli translation of Mahabharat regarding the power of Pashupatastra:

O thou of mighty arms, that weapon (Pashupatastra) is superior to the Brahma, the Narayana, the Indra, the Agneya, and the Varuna weapons. Verily, it is capable of neutralizing every other weapon in the universe. It was with that weapon that the illustrious Mahadeva had in days of yore, burnt and consumed in a moment the triple city of the Asuras. With the greatest ease, Mahadeva, using that single arrow, achieved that feat. That weapon, shot by Mahadeva’s arms, can, without doubt consume in half the time taken up by a twinkling of the eyes the entire universe with all its mobile and immobile creatures. In the universe there is no being including even the deities, that are incapable of being slain by that weapon.

….” Wikipedia

This is basically the end of the universe Even history is destroyed by it.

There is hardly any intelligent person who worries about such divine wrath, even though it has been predicted since the first records were made – at least 6000 years ago. In spite of every religion preaching about it and in spite of the abundant evidence that every empire has become corrupt and been destroyed at some time. The ‘end is nigh’ placard has become a joke for our generation. Anyway our world is not for turning, least of all for such reasons. If we made it profitable to turn away from the error of our ways it might still be possible but we wont do that. Our world considers itself so powerful (it can destroy the planet any time it chooses), so knowledgeable (its computers know it all) and yet we see how fragile it really is, how endangered all our species, how pathetic we are in the face of so many dangers. It is like a child that thinks it can conquer the world with its new plastic sword or ray gun. True knowledge is very hard to find but written large in some of our history.

But let us look more at this Parashuram:

“The violent persecution of Brahmins by Kshatriya had at the time spanned generations. Aurva, great-grandfather of Parashurama, recalled a vivid childhood experience:

While lying unborn, I heard the doleful cries of my mother and other women of the Bhrigu race who were then being exterminated by the Kshatriyas. When those Kshatriyas began to exterminate the Bhrigus together with unborn children of their race, it was then that wrath filled my soul. My mother and the other women of our race, each in an advanced state of pregnancy, and my father, while terribly alarmed, found not in all the worlds a single protector. Then when the Bhrigu women found not a single protector, my mother held me in one of her thighs.

— Mahabharata 1:182

(rattuos: this is about saving our future generations not opposing abortion)

……Parashurama did as he was told and beheld Lord Vishnu himself. Vishnu blessed Parashurama for victory and told him what the future held. After completing his quest and attaining mastery of the Kavacha, Parashurama headed towards Mahishmati to slay Kartavirya.

Parashurama reached the outskirts of Mahishmati and sent a message to Kartavirya, either return Kamadhenu and surrender to the Bhargavas or death on the battlefield.

Outraged, Kartavirya summoned billions of kings who were his vassals and allies and a thousand mighty akshauhinis (each akshauhini consists of 21870 war elephants each carrying seven soldiers, 21870 battle chariots each carrying four men, 65610 cavalry and 109350 footsoldiers).

Parshurama ascended on a single chariot and without any ally, marched against the formidable Haihayas……..

When he returned home, his father was pleased, but seeing the blood stained axe of Parashurama, also concerned. He cautioned his son he must be aware of wrath and pride. Parashurama accepted the reprimand of his father, in penance and went on a pilgrimage to holy places for one year in purification.

Meanwhile, the sons of Kartavirya discovered their father at the palace and knew that only Parashurama could have killed him. In revenge, they traveled to the hermitage and murdered Jamadagni, discharging arrows into him like killing a stag. Afterwards, they decapitated his body and took his head with them.

When Parashurama returned home, he found his mother next to the body of his father, crying hysterically as she beat her breast twenty one times in a row. Furious, he hunted down the sons of Kartavirya at the palace. He killed them all and returned with the head of his father to conduct the cremation. Parashurama then vowed to enact a genocide on the war-mongering Kshatriyas twenty one times over, once for each time his mother’s hand hit her chest.

(rattuos: always the cycles of revenge take over following war, silly us if we think the conquered do not seek vengeance)

……….Pitrs then appeared and obstructed the chariot of Parashurama, forbidding him from fighting any longer. The spirit of Parashurama’s father, Jamadagni and his grandfather, Ruchika, spoke to him:

O son, never again engage in battle with Bhishma or any other Kshatriya. Heroism and courage in battle are the qualities of a Kshatriya and study of the Vedas and the practice of austerities are the wealth of the Brahmans. Previously, you took up weapons to protect the Brahmans, but this is not the case now. Let this battle with Bhishma be your last. O son of the Bhrigu race, it is not possible to defeat Bhishma.

— Mahabharata 188:5

……….By the end of the Vedic period, Parashurama had grown weary of bloodshed and became a sannyasi, giving up his possessions to practice penance. The first book of the Mahabharata writes:

The son of Jamadagni, after twenty-one times making the Earth bereft of Kshatriyas, wended to that best of Mountains Mahendra and there began his ascetic penance.

— Mahabharata 1:14

He traveled to central India at the northern end of the Eastern Ghats and Western Odisha and ascended the Mahendra Mountains. Before he left, Parashurama distributed the territories he conquered among Brahmins, who ruled for many centuries. Kingdoms included Kerala, Mushika, Karnata and Konkana.

Unlike other incarnations of Vishnu, Parashurama is a Chiranjivi and is said to still be doing penance today in Mahendragiri. The Kalki Purana writes that he will reemerge at the end of Kali Yuga to be the martial and spiritual guru of Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Vishnu. It is foretold that he will instruct Kalki to perform a difficult penance to Shiva, and receive the celestial weaponry needed to bring about end time…..”

In the past here I have written much about Kalki but deleted all those passages along with the rest when I started again. Whether Kalki emerges at a time when the physical human is extinct is hard to decide. The end time battle of the Gods – Ragnarok – seems to suggest that life is removed, the world regenerated and starts again rather differently. Perhaps that is what happened with the dinosaurs who came back as our birds when their bloody reign ended.

“In Hinduism, Kalki (Devanagari: कल्कि; lit. destroyer of filth) is the tenth avatar of the god Vishnu in the current Mahayuga, foretold to appear at the end of Kali Yuga, the current epoch. The Purana scriptures foretell that Kalki will be atop a white horse with a drawn blazing sword. He is the harbinger of the end time in Hindu eschatology, after which he will usher in Satya Yuga…..The Agni Purana predicts that at the time of his birth, evil kings will feed on the pious. Kalki will be born son of Vishnuyasha in the mythic Shambhala. He will have Yajnavalkya as his spiritual guru.

Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Vishnu is a Chiranjivi (immortal) and in scripture is believed to be alive, waiting for the return of Kalki. He will be a martial preceptor of Kalki, teaching him military science, warfare arts and instructing him in the performance of a severe penance in order to receive celestial weaponry” Wikipedia

We might look at two things from that. Kalki‘s guru:

Yajnavalkya (Sanskrit: याज्ञवल्क्य, Yājñavalkya) is a revered Vedic sage of Hinduism. He is mentioned in the oldest Upanishadic scriptures, and likely lived in Videha kingdom of northern Bihar around the 8th century BCE, or 7th century.

According to Ben-Ami Scharfstein – a professor emeritus of Philosophy at Tel Aviv University, Yajnavalkya was one of the earliest philosophers in recorded history, after Aruni. Yajnavalkya proposes and then debates metaphysical questions about the nature of existence and impermanence, expounds the epistemic doctrine of neti neti (“not this, not this”) to discover the universal Self and Ātman. He renounced worldly attachments, and his renunciation ideas have been important to the Hindu sannyasa traditions” Wikipedia

And also what kind of world Kalki is bringing – the Satya Yuga (The Icelandic saga mentions the final battle between the gods as Ragnarok which is followed by the fire of Surtr). The Satya Yuga is an age governed by Truth and Justice (Dharma) which is where we started:

“The Satya Yuga (Devanagari: सत्य युग), also called Sat Yuga, Krta Yuga and Krita Yuga in Hinduism, is the first of the four Yugas, the “Yuga (Age or Era) of Truth”, when humanity is governed by gods, and every manifestation or work is close to the purest ideal and humanity will allow intrinsic goodness to rule supreme. It is sometimes referred to as the “Golden Age“. The Satya Yuga lasts 1,728,000 years. The goddess Dharma (depicted in the form of cow), which symbolises morality, stood on all four legs during this period. Later on in the Treta Yuga, it would become three, followed by two in the Dvapara Yuga. Currently, in the immoral age of Kali, it stands on one leg………

The Yugas are said to succeed each other almost endlessly. After the perfect Satya Yuga, a decline marks the Treta Yuga. Further decline brings about the Dwapara Yuga, and after it comes the final and dark Kali Yuga, a time of wickedness, when man kills another man. At the end of the cycle a Divine Being is said to take birth and reestablish righteousness, thus beginning a new Satya Yuga

………as described in the Mahabharata, a Hindu epic: there were no poor and no rich

………” Wikipedia

It may be that our world will suddenly convert to the Dharma, and everything be based on truth rather than a rush to riches. But it may be that what is really being mentioned is that part of the afterlife where that is the case, which both preceded this world, has existed alongside it and will outlast it. What is certainly being said is that the evil of a world where war, poverty, corruption and exploitation rule supreme will be utterly destroyed by some mighty weapon. It is not nice nor helpful that there does not look to be any change in our behaviour on the horizon as only that can avert disaster of this magnitude. If these ancient writings have any truth in them!

Perhaps they do. this is taken from the article on mass extinctions:

“Estimates of the number of major mass extinctions in the last 540 million years range from as few as five to more than twenty. These differences stem from the threshold chosen for describing an extinction event as “major”, and the data chosen to measure past diversity.” Wikipedia

According to the above Parashuram threatened 21 mass extinctions, not necessarily killing all life on the planet just removing the governance that was leading the world astray whatever that happened to be. They need to talk to him about this fast. We are getting near misses more frequently.

When will 2016 WF9 hit Earth, how close did 2017 BS32 get and could a meteor strike destroy the planet?

NASA scientists have warned that a giant space rock is set to brush past the Earth.

Last week., Asteroid 2017 BS32 hurtled past our precious planet missing it by a meagre 161,280km according to stargazers.

Experts believe a fatal collision is definitely on the cards at some point, but it’s unlikely any of us will be around to see it, reports The Sun.

The near-miss last week follows news that another galactic stone, dubbed ‘2016 WF9’, is on course to smash into the Earth.

But boffins at the US space agency insist the rogue asteroid will burn up during its entry to our atmosphere.

Indeed the threat of a giant rock causing considerable damage to our planet remains a distinct possibility.

Space nerds at NASA have reportedly attended an “emergency” summit to explore the risk posed by asteroids.

They’ve also warned it’s “not a matter of if — but when” we will be forced to deal with an asteroid slamming into the Earth’s surface……

Is this next article fake news?

Doomsday asteroid ‘will hit Earth on February 16,’ Russian maniac warns

Early this year, NASA detected a mysterious object at the edge of our solar system – and said it would sail safely past Earth…….

But one self-styled astronomer claims they are wrong – and that not only will it hit Earth, it’s a part of the mysterious death planet Nibiru!

On February 16, a massive space rock will hit Earth – followed by the death planet itself, according to Mysterious Universe.

We should note at this point that there’s no scientific evidence Nibiru even exists – and that internet maniacs predict that it will destroy Earth with mind-numbing regularity, and that it never, ever does…….

Without wishing to worry anyone the most alarming part of the story is that the thing was only spotted last month! This is what was said then;

“NASA detects gigantic comet approaching Earth and it’s so huge you’ll be able to see it from Britain

Two massive space rocks are heading toward our planet – and you’ll be able to see them entering Earth’s orbit
